March Madness Finale (April Fools)
Written by The Madman
Tuesday, 01 April 2008
April Fool'sSo, within a months time (31 days) I've managed to completely overhaul the Madmantics(dot)com website.
So, what does this mean?
Well, basically it means that for anyone who's been hitting the site since March 5 has been privey to a Crash Course in Web Development by yours truly.

31 days from Start to Finish is really not that long of a time to get a website Up & Running, Fully Functional and ready to take on Visitors, Members, an Audience, Employees, Payments, etc.  What turns out to be as important as looks, colours, schemes, and what-not, is (as always) CONTENT.

I'll be adding more to this in a few days, once I finish a prank on my little sister...  lol

March Madness Update

Thursday, 27 March 2008
In an effort to keep Visitors on their toes, i'll be going thru templates, various designs and layouts for the next 2 weeks.  If anyone has a question on any of these, please feel free to email me.

tom_waits_1978-1.jpgSo, here's the "Official" News...
We'll be back in the studio, manning the helm for a Blues recording project for Mark Bramlett.
11 cover songs of old Blues.
(I have more to say and I'll add that in Friday, after 5pm...)

In the meantime, we decided the 'sound' of the project would most likely fall somewhere 'round "Heart Attack & Vine"

March Development Update

OK, so I went wandering thru the Darkness, and ended up in the Wilderness.

And while I was gone, there's been much activity on the website... thats the Good News.

The Bad News (well, not really) is that I need to fix a Cache problem on the server, so, for the next few days, the website may be 'sluggish' in loading and media delivery.

I apologize for the inconvenince, and I am werking on a solution for that.  Stay Tuned...

What You See Is What You Get, damnit

In any event, I guess this would officially be considered Phase 3.

It weren't easy, in fact, it was hard as hell...
"but you already knew that, messieur!"
Well maybe so, but all this took approx. 1 week to build all this, from scratch.

WYSIWYG editors are GREAT!!, but which one to use, and for what?  How much and what's a Special Membership?

It's a monster. It's a beast.
It's the beginning of something... not sure what it is, but I'll find it when I get there.
"Amen?"

March Development Update (a.k.a. Pffft)
Written by The Madman
Tuesday, 04 March 2008

So, somewhere 'round midnite last night, i finally decide Joomla 1.5 ain't cuttin' it for me, so..
here's the online demo version click here .

J1.5 is actually really great, especially for minimal to mid-sized websites, however, I did run into a little snag, which mostly involves Community and Developement issues.

So, i ended up redoing this website (overnight) with Joomla 1.0.13, where the goodies are bountiful, but still need to test out the new J1.0.15 upgrade before I put it to werk in the mainstream.

...until the next time

Every once in awhile, I tend to read thru development blogs and news regarding Joomla and other CMS's.
One thing of particualr interest (and its been that way since way-y back when) is Security and Vulnerability.

Without a team of experts handling a website or server, its damn near impossible to assure anything close to 98% Guarantee that a site won't be hacked into.  If someone wants to, they will... and that goes for larger websites, netwerks and such.

The worst part is that its always 'unexpected', where one day everything is fine, and the next morning... BOOM, there it is.

I personally keep a look out for such things, maybe not on a daily basis, but do go thru logs and IP tracking on a weekly / bi-weekly basis.

I'm going somewhere with this, so i'll add more later today....
