For Andrea Swain, artistic expression started as doodles and sketches on the edges of her school assignments and notes. She was fortunate to have teachers who did not squelch her creativity and allowed her to turn in her work embellished with unicorns, pixies, and various designs. Her doodles found their way to canvas, and at the age of fourteen, sitting on the floor of her mother's living room, she completed her first painting. And so it began... The doodles grew into sketches, the paint would not last long enough, and there just weren't enough canvases. Whether photo-realistic or impressionistic, Andrea loves the use of color and contrast. Watch your blank spaces, people, because when you're not looking, she will fill them with art.

JAZZ ART STATEMENT
Jazz and art have always been my passions. As a teenager, I would draw listening to bebop recordings by Dizzy, Miles, and Coltrane from my parent’s record collection. Over the last 20 years I have been developing a series of jazz art that incorporates a combination of photography and watercolor painting. Like jazz itself, the art is about variations and improvisations. My jazz art has been described as “physiologically penetrating”.
